Passover 5785
The "Festival of Passing Over" (Hag HaPesach) takes place this year between April 12–20. The holiday commemorates how Jewish slaves were spared from the final biblical plague—the death of the firstborn—by marking their homes with lamb's blood, causing death to "pass over" them. After this, they were able to leave Egypt and escape slavery. This much is widely known. What I haven’t yet shared is how our small community celebrated.
After the Saturday evening prayer and the appearance of the stars, the reading of the Haggadah began at the central table in the prayer hall, led by Grünstein Shaul, Dub László, and Rosenberg Dezső. We listened, read, drank, and ate according to the ritual. Although it ended late, after 11 PM, the atmosphere was joyful, and the communal bonding united our community.
Thanks to all who participated, and in addition to those mentioned: Grün Simona (main organizer), Nagy Albert (our "jack-of-all-trades"), Maiorescu Andrea, and Balog Anikó (who provided food and drink)!
Chag Pesach Sameach! (Happy Passover!)
