
In 2025, the UN General Assembly declared January 27th as International Holocaust Remembrance Day, as it was on this day that the Red Army liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp. This year, our community organized a roundtable discussion on this topic. After an introduction by Dr. László Dub, president of the Jewish community, several speakers took the floor, all of them descendants of Holocaust survivors: historian and writer Mihály Spielmann, editor and teacher Inke Mármor, physician György Naftali, and retired teacher György Diamantstein. The discussions covered a wide range of topics: how it was possible, how people reacted (e.g., the Germans), anti-Semitism today, international attitudes, and perhaps most valuable of all, the personal memories of the survivors... !!
