In 2018 (5779 by the Jewish calendar) , during the holidays of Hanukkah , our community received very special guests from the Romanian Jewish Community , namely Mr. Eduard Kupferber , secretary general , the chief rabbi Rafael Shaffer, and the cantor , Mr. Pusztai Emanuel. They were joined by Prof. Dr. Carol Iancu, from Montpelier University, a notable historian specialized in the field of Jewish historiography. Our guests arrived on Friday, December the 7th, and we spent with them a traditional Shabbat, the way our parents and grandparents did many years ago.

We started at 4 pm with Kabalat Shabbat, together with 40 members of our Jewish community of Targu Mures. During the evening, we heard a very interesting interpretation of the Weekly Torah Portion from Rabbi Shaffer.

The next day Mr. Samuel Solomon (the person who leads the local congregation in prayers) joined us as well and the prayers were followed by the Kiddush, all in a very pleasant atmosphere. The delicious meal was prepared by Mrs. Negrea and Mr. Rosenberg. In the late afternoon we prayed Minhah, and after the Havdalah, around 6 pm the cantor Pusztai entertained us with traditional Hanukkah songs with his outstanding voice. In the second part of the evening, Mr. Buta Arpad , lead singer of the Targu Mures philharmonic, sang for us a variety of well-chosen songs , ended by the well-known Hava Nagilah. The traditional Hanukkah gifts were given to the children.
